I was born in Los Angeles California in 1958. I grew up in Lakewood and Long Beach California and attended Millikan High School in Long Beach. I played water polo and swam on the swim team at Millikan HIgh School and graduated in 1976. I attended college in Long Beach and worked at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower during that time and for a total of 7 years. During my time at Kaiser hospital, I applied to the C.H.P. in late 1983. After all the written and physical tests, I was accepted to the next round of the process which was an extensive background check of my past. During this time I met my wife to be who is a third grade teacher in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. We have two grown children, our son is 24 and attends C.S.U.L.B. and our daughter 20, and attends C.S.U.S.F.
In early 1985 I was accepted in the C.H.P. academy in Sacramento (a paramilitary academy) where I went through 6 months of driving, physical and classroom training. At the end of this six months of extensive training, I was assigned to the Central Los Angeles C.H.P. office where I worked the downtown area freeways for 7 years. In 1992 I submitted a transfer to an office closer to my home in Long Beach and subsequently transferred to the Westminster C.H.P. office, where I currently work. Once at the Westminster office I was offered the job of visiting Governor’s driver. After a training period in Sacramento for this job, I have been assigned to protect and drive many visiting governors in the Southern California area. At about the same time I took on the Governor’s driver job I also applied and was accepted to the presidential service detail (Presidential Motorcade Detail). I still do both these jobs and patrol the freeways of Orange County to this day. I have been a C.H.P. officer now for twenty-nine years and have worked the freeways of Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Now that I’m close to retirement from the C.H.P., I have joined T.R.T.S. and hope to teach the students I work with to drive defensively and safely. I still enjoy surfing and standup paddle boarding with my family and I play on two softball teams during the week. I also keep busy at our local CSULB gym and enjoy going for runs.
